Trying Something New: Cross Stitch Pattern

It has been such a beautiful fall week! I’ve been enjoying looking around everywhere as I walk, hike, or drive. I’m listening to the wind rustling through the leaves and delighting in the feeling of fresh breezes and the crumbly scent of old plants laying down for the winter. I’m also wrapping up some art projects and planning a few new projects for the winter months.

I tried something new with my Etsy shop this week. I was realizing that though selling vintage items is fun for me, it would also be a neat platform to sell my own art or patterns. I often follow other people’s patterns, but occasionally design my own. Even if I make my own pattern, I don’t often make the same thing more than a few times. I decided it would make more sense for me to sell patterns of things I make than the actual item. Hence, I digitally recreated a cross stitch pattern that I had made a few years back of a tree in autumn.

I found a program called Stitch Fiddle which enables you to easily create a pattern. There is a free and premium version if you want to try it out yourself. My original pattern is now listed here if any of you would like to try a very small cross stitch project to get you in the mood for fall. I would also appreciate any feedback about marketing. I am trying to decide for future patterns what are the best images to use for listing the pattern. Is the finished project best or a portion of the digital image? If of the finished product, what is the best way to light it? For those of you who photograph and/or market art work, I would love your tips and feedback!

Coming soon, I’ll share about a new tartan plaid skirt I made from the fabric of an old skirt which didn’t fit. I also made a matching hat out of the scraps following a vintage 1930s pattern! Excited to show you pictures soon.
